It’s Been A Whole Month! Where Have I Been?

Monday, July 31st, 2006

I rarely ever leave this alone for so long.  In fact the last time I left my blog untouched was the 5 month space between my first and second blog.  Why you ask?  Because I’ve been sick and alone at the office without the luxury of being able to take a couple of sick days off to sleep off my germs and meds.  And I’ve been OMG, reading!

Actually it was kinda nice to take a break from writing for a bit.  Unlike some of my dear mates who actually write for a living, I write for pleasure and although that sometimes make me a little laissez-faire about getting off my rear and throwing something together, its still waaay more enjoyable than having deadlines poking you in the back.

So I’ve been busy reading someone else’s writing and wow it was worth picking those books up at the sale!  Trudi Canavan is currently in the top 5 list of my favourite writers (R.E. Feist and J.K. Rowling tops that list currently) with her Black Magician Trilogy.  Most awesome indeed!

B1_2 It begins with the 1st book, The Magicians’ Guild.  Each year, the streets of Imardin are purged of the poor and homeless by the powerful Magicians’ Guild, and each year, gangs of local youths protest and resist, usually without effect. But this year, one such youth manages to injure one of the magicians, revealing herself to magically gifted. What follows is the hunt for the rogue magician Sonea, who believes the guild will kill her if they find her, while the guild are far more concerned with the damage she could do to herself and others if not found in time.  While Sonea goes into hiding with the Thieves, bargains are struck and the plot thickens…

I won’t give away any more regarding the next book and one B2_2 thereafter but although I found the 1st book relatively slow, the 2nd and 3rd (and in my opinion the best book of the trilogy) fantastic so pick it up and read it when you have the time. I finished all 3 books in 4 days, not including the extra day I spent re-reading the 3rd book. B3_1   If you are opposed to actually shelling out money for literature please feel free to contact Jasmine’ Library. Opening hours are from 9am to 9pm daily.  Up to 3 paperback books may be borrowed for a period of one week and any lost or damaged books are to be replaced and dinner is to be bought for the librarian or she will eat you alive.

Anyway, I’m off to read Trudi Canavan’s 2nd trilogy; Age Of The Five. I have the 1st book in hardcover.  I’m currently waiting for Kinokuniya to call me regarding the 2nd book sometime this month. I’m climbing the walls.
